Overview
Lying to the north and adjacent to Tanzania’s Serengeti, forming one integrated ecosystem, Kenya’s Masai Mara is 1812sq km of reserve vast rolling plains, hills and woodland groves bisected by the Mara River itself. It's varied topography creates a unique bio-diverse area, providing guests the opportunity to venture into the savannah covered with hundreds or even thousands of animals of many different species. These vast grasslands are rich with herds of zebra, giraffe, gazelle, and topi. With huge grazing herds, voracious attendant predators, including Africa’s largest population of lions, leopard ,cheetah, elephant, buffalo, rhino and bountiful birdlife, the Mara is the staging ground for the annual Wildebeest Great Migration.

There are 6-8 tents throughout the year, perfect for those who are looking for that under canvas experience at a great price. Each of the tents features two queen beds and en-suite bathroom with shower, sink and flush toilet. Running cold water is available all day and hot water for morning or evening showers is available on request. Electricity in the rooms is limited to the evening hours for charging batteries and lighting the tents. Blow dryers and charging laptops is not recommended. Enjoy your own small deck surrounded by fields of grass and hills, perfect for birding.

With a fully equipped kitchen and professional chefs, Kensington Mara West is able to spread the table with tastefully prepared, appetizing dishes of many varieties. A wide range of tastes, including vegetarian dishes, can be catered to. Daily various soups, creative main entrees, plentiful fresh fruits, salads, vegetables, home cooked pastries, breads and deserts are freshly prepared. Bottled water is included in the tariff, soda, beer and wine are available on a cash basis.

Guests can relax in the lounge area or enjoy outdoor activities. These include game viewing down in the great expanse of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Kensington Mara West Camp, which is located 5 kms from the Oloololo Park Entry, makes the park easily accessible to clients throughout the year. Birdwatchers can enjoy a wide diversity of bird life, with birds of prey soaring on the updrafts from the escarpment and special varieties nesting in the thicket that grows along the escarpment’s edge. Other activities offered are cultural activities that include a cultural tour to the local Maasai Boma, tours and introduction of local schools and their activities, cultural talks by the local Maasai about their lives and traditions and traditional dances. In addition, clients may opt to enjoy bush breakfast or sundowners or a guided walking safari in a designated walking area exclusively bordered by Kensington Mara West Camp.
